Originally from London, Luke has been Dj'ing since 2000, spending 2004 in Sydney, Australia and then moving to California to study music technology and to start up his own music production company. It's a far cry from his first days working in clubs as a face painter, but this became his initiation into the music industry and club scene, and before long he was spinning at after parties alongside the Dj's he worked with at the clubs. It didn't take long for his talent to be recognized and he earned himself a spot at London's Collesseum spinning for 'Pickle'.
Now residing in California for the past 4 years Luke is currently the resident DJ at Gus Presents Social Club and had held a residency at San Francisco's Mezzanine for 'Matinee' from Sept 2005 until June 2006, which ran the first Sunday of each month, playing in the Skybar alternately with Dontix. His debut at Mezzanine was over the Labor day holiday weekend, with Victor Calderone taking the main floor, whilst upstairs Luke mixed up his funky beats and electro vibes. Luke also took over the Skybar in April whilst downstairs had Junior Vasquez spinning on the main floor for Matinee's 1 year anniversary.
Luke has also appeared in San Francisco at Eight for 'Bump', 'Bump Classic', 'UP' and for 'Dragon', 'Thick' and 'Action', including the special Christmas Eve event in 2005 for Dragon. Known for playing at big events back in London the trend seems to have followed him here. His debut at Bump was over Pride weekend and he also took the decks after the Castro Street Fair.
In March 2006 Luke also performed his debut at The End Up for 'Fag Fridays'. The End Up has been running for over 30 years and is considered a global institution on the club scene. Luke was extremely pleased to be chosen to play and performed a cracking set that brought the crowd onto the dance floor.
Luke's debut for Gus Presents was at 715 Harrison, what used to be known as The Sound Factory, for the party Orgy. Luke headlined the party following SF DJ Frank Wild and has since played for Gus at Adonis and Underworld, Gus' famous underwear party and is now resident at Social Club which runs every Saturday night at The Lookout. In October 2008 Luke also played at the pre-party for Gus' recent club event Paradise. Gus Presents has been running events in SF and LA for the past 20 years and so this has been a great doorway into the club seen on America's West Coast.
The Lookout is also host to the Friday night party ACTIVATE and Luke has played a couple of the Friday nights for Lord Martine the promoter of ACTIVATE.
The large department store chain Macy's has been holding Macy's Passport for the past 25 years, which raises funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. This year Luke played the San Francisco cast and crew after party at the legendary AsiaSF and rocked the dance floor past closing with his funky beats and pop remixes.
Luke has also made a move out to the East Coast and played at The Core Club in New York. The Core Club is a lavish palace in New York's mid-town for members only and Luke played a more relaxed funky set for the opening weekend.
For Halloween 2006 Luke headed off to Honolulu to spin at Hula's Bar and Lei stand. The night was amazing so many people made the effort to get into costumes and the bar was packed. Luke put together a set of epic proportions for the five hours that he played and introduced many new releases to the crowd at Hula's He returned on Saturday Nov 6th for an encore perfromance and it seems there may be more trips to Honolulu in Luke's future.
In Sydney Luke collaborated with fellow DJ Dan Murphy and, together with Eric Lewis, they started up and ran the weekly Saturday morning day club called 'Rebound' at Manacle. The success of this and the Sunday morning club 'Bent', held at the same venue, meant that they were able to combine the two and also open for longer and on Monday mornings, making a great profit for the venue and it's owners. Still going strong Luke returned in March 2005 and played five sets during his stay.
Luke also hosted his own radio show on Beat FM 87.6. It ran every Thursday until he left Sydney in November 2004. In addition he was one of four hosts of the Friday night show and provided gossip and music news.
Other events he played in Australia included the Rawhide Recovery party in Melbourne over the Queen's birthday weekend, and after Sleaze Ball in October he picked up sets at three venues, Manacle for 'Bent", Stonewall and at The Chinese Laundry for 'Fag Tag', keeping the party going until the early hours of Monday morning. Once again harking back to his roots of playing in London at large venues such as Heaven, Brixton Academy and The Imperial Gardens, and in Bristol at The Depot.
Outside of the music scene Luke has written articles for SX National in Sydney, Gloss in San Francisco.
